In his address, Honourable Akwaboah pledged the full support of the Regional Coordinating Council and emphasized that the 2027 GHATUSA Games must serve a purpose greater than just a university sports festival. He stressed that the event should be positioned to enhance the socio-economic fortunes of Sunyani and the Bono Region.

He stated, “The 2027 GHATUSA Games must not only be a celebration of talent and sportsmanship but also an avenue to boost the socio-economic life of Sunyani and the Bono Region. This is not just a university programme; it is a regional and national project, and the people of Bono will rally behind STU.”

The Vice-Chancellor of STU, Ing. Professor Adinkrah-Appiah, drew attention to the challenges of inadequate sporting infrastructure in the Bono Region. He stressed that while this poses a hurdle to sports development, it equally presents an opportunity for STU and its stakeholders. “We are calling on government, corporate institutions, alumni, and benevolent individuals to support the University in completing the AstroTurf pitch, constructing standard tartan tracks, and providing volleyball and handball courts. These facilities will enable us to host the 2027 Games successfully and also serve as a legacy for community and national sports development,” he stated.

Delivering a message on behalf of the Chair of VCTU-G, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, the Executive Secretary, Mr. Joseph Mensah Oti-Asirifi, reflected on the experiences of past Games and the expectations ahead. He assured the Local Organising Committee (LOC) that VCTU-G, through its Secretariat, would continue to provide the necessary oversight and a supportive hand to strengthen the host institution in achieving excellence.

“We have learned useful lessons from previous editions of the Games, and looking ahead, you must raise the bar. It is, therefore, with great expectation that we look to STU and its Local Organising Committee to set a new benchmark in the history of the GHATUSA Games. The nation, the Technical University fraternity, and indeed the wider public, will be watching with anticipation. We are confident that, under the able leadership of Professor Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah and with the energy of the dedicated team assembled here, Sunyani Technical University will not only meet but exceed these expectations, delivering a Games remembered for its excellence, inclusiveness, and legacy,” he noted.
