Accra, Ghana – February 19, 2025

The Honourable Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, is set to inaugurate the 3rd Ghana Technical University Sports Association (GHATUSA) Games on Monday, April 7, 2025, which will be hosted by the Cape Coast Technical University. The Minister will also perform the ceremonial kickoff at the opening ceremony at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

This announcement was made during a courtesy call by the Vice Chancellors of Technical Universities of Ghana (VCTU-G) on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Speaking on behalf of the Chairman of the VCTU-G, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, Executive Secretary Mr. Joseph Mensah Oti-Asirifi congratulated Hon. Kofi Adams on his appointment as the Minister for Sports and Recreation and extended an invitation to him for the GHATUSA Games in Cape Coast.

The GHATUSA Games brings together ten Technical Universities in Ghana, offering students an opportunity to compete in various sporting disciplines while fostering national unity and school pride. The 2025 edition is expected to attract over 15,000 participants, including athletes, Games officials, students, alumni, and members of the public.

During the meeting, the VCTU-G raised concerns about the inadequate sports infrastructure at Technical Universities and called on the government to support the completion of existing sports projects. Mr. Oti-Asirifi noted that funding constraints have left many facilities uncompleted, limiting training and recreational opportunities for students and staff.

Hon. Kofi Adams, who is also the Member of Parliament for Buem in the Oti Region, assured the VCTU-G of the Ministry’s continued support in strengthening sports initiatives across Ghana’s tertiary institutions. He said the Ministry of Sports and Recreation recognizes the GHATUSA Games as a key avenue for talent identification and development and emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting university sports in Ghana.

The 2025 GHATUSA Games will take place from Thursday, April 3, to Sunday, April 13, featuring a wide range of competitions, including football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, athletics, and taekwondo.

Historically, the Games the GHATUSA Games have produced student-athletes who have gone on to represent Ghana at national and international levels.
