
Sunyani, Ghana – The Vice Chancellors of Technical Universities of Ghana (VCTU-G) has honoured two distinguished academic leaders, Sir Prof. Elias Nortaa Kunedeb Sowley and Prof. Abass Braimah, for their outstanding contributions to technical university education in Ghana.
The honour was conferred during the 22nd Regular Meeting of VCTU-G, held at Sunyani Technical University (STU) on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. In a ceremony filled with admiration and appreciation, both recipients were presented with citations recognizing their impactful leadership, dedication, and service to technical education in Ghana.
Prof. Sir Elias Nortaa Kunedeb Sowley, Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU), was honoured for his remarkable tenure as Chairman of the VCTU-G, 2023-2024. His leadership brought renewed unity and purpose to the association, strengthening its role in influencing educational policies and advocating for the interests of technical universities.
Presenting the citation, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, Chairman of VCTU-G and Vice-Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University (TTU), commended Sir Prof. Sowley for his wisdom, strategic direction, and commitment to excellence.
In response, Prof. Sir Sowley expressed profound gratitude to VCTU-G and his colleagues for their unwavering support during his tenure.
“I am deeply honoured by this recognition. Leading VCTU-G was both a privilege and a challenge, but the collective effort and dedication of my colleagues made it a fulfilling journey. Together, we have strengthened technical university education in Ghana, and I am proud of what we have achieved. I dedicate this honour to all who believe in the power of technical and vocational education as a catalyst for national development”, Sir Prof. Sowley remarked
Prof. Abass Braimah, the immediate-past Vice-Chancellor of Tamale Technical University (TaTU) (2020-2024), was also honoured for his distinguished leadership and contributions to technical university education. As a member of VCTU-G, Prof. Braimah played a pivotal role in high-level discussions and represented the association on key national committees. Prof. Saeed Ibn Bashiru, the current Vice-Chancellor of TaTU, received the citation on behalf of Prof. Braimah, who joined the presentation ceremony online. In presenting his citation, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun acknowledged the invaluable contributions and impact of Prof. Braimah on technical education.
Prof. Braimah, visibly moved by the honour, expressed gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the collective effort of his team at TaTU and his peers at VCTU-G.
“I am humbled by this recognition. My time at Tamale Technical University and with VCTU-G has been one of growth, service, and dedication to a shared vision. The future of technical universities in Ghana is bright, and I am confident that with continued collaboration and innovation, we will achieve even greater milestones. All other members of the VCTU-G extended their heartfelt congratulations to the honourees and wished them continued success in their future endeavours.
