The Sunyani Technical University (STU) has been presented with 18 laptop computers and accessories by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). Dr. Kawanda McCarthy Williams, Assistant Dean for Experiential Education at UMES’s School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, made the presentation on behalf of UMES during a ten-day visit to Ghana by a 14-member delegation. The visit, which began on January 8, 2025, includes research activities, community outreach on maternal health, and initiatives aimed at reinforcing the relationship between UMES and STU.

This generous donation supports STU’s commitment to enhancing academic resources and fostering collaborative initiatives, directly benefiting its students, faculty, and research capabilities. Professor Adinkrah-Appiah also spoke about the enduring collaboration between STU and UMES, highlighting the upcoming exchange programs. “We are not only grateful for this donation but are also looking forward to deepening our partnership,” he stated. “The collaboration will soon see STU students joining the PharmD program at UMES, which is a great opportunity for them to receive world-class training.” He emphasized that these initiatives are in line with STU’s vision to cultivate strong global networks that enhance the quality of education and research at the university.

In addition to the immediate benefits of the donation, Prof. Adinkrah-Appiah pointed out that this collaboration will provide STU students with valuable international exposure. “Our students are eager to engage in academic exchange, and we look forward to welcoming UMES students to STU as well,” he added.

Prof. Jones Lewis Arthur, the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, who chaired the meeting, accepted the laptops on behalf of STU. He also gave a PowerPoint presentation to the visiting team, providing an overview of STU’s academic programmes and achievements. The event was attended by key STU officials, including the Registrar, Samuel Ankama Obour, and the Director of Finance, Thomas Kwafo.

STU continues to expand its educational offerings and remains committed to fulfilling its mandate to provide high-quality education and contribute meaningfully to the development of Ghana and beyond.
