Sunyani, Ghana – The Vice-Chancellors of Technical Universities of Ghana (VCTU-G) concluded their 22nd Regular Meeting at the Sunyani Technical University on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, marking another important step in their collective efforts to redefine the landscape of technical and vocational education in Ghana.

This high-profile convergence of academic leaders and key stakeholders, including the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Prof. Ahmed Abdulai Jinapor, and executives from the Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG), addressed pressing governance and strategic imperatives for the future of technical education in the country. The Committee of Registrars and Directors of Finance (DoFs) was also present, contributing to discussions on administrative and financial sustainability in the Technical Universities.

Strategic Resolutions and Key Highlights
A focal point of the deliberations was the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan for VCTU-G, a blueprint designed to leverage the Vice-Chancellors’ platform to reinforce industry partnerships, advance research, and integrate Technical Universities into Ghana’s broader developmental agenda. The purpose of this plan is to align technical education with national economic needs and to ensure that Technical Universities contribute effectively to the country’s industrial transformation.

Speaking on the strategic direction of the association, VCTU-G Chairman, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, said, “technical Universities must be at the heart of Ghana’s industrial transformation. We need to align our curricula, research efforts, and industry collaborations to meet national demands. This Strategic Plan of VCTU-G will serve as a guiding document to drive impactful reforms.”

The meeting also ratified the official dates for the 2025 Ghana Technical Universities Sports Association (GHATUSA) Games, which will be hosted by Cape Coast Technical University.

Another highlight was the review of VCTU-G’s partnership with the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) and the Mastercard Foundation. This initiative, focused on providing scholarships for academically gifted but financially constrained students, was underlined by a special commitment to inclusivity, with dedicated slots for girls and persons with disabilities.

The Vice-Chancellors also approved the theme for the 2026 Applied Research Conference, which will be hosted by Takoradi Technical University. This conference is expected to drive innovation, strengthen industry-academic collaboration, and provide a platform for cutting-edge research within Technical Universities.

A landmark moment of the meeting was the official launch of the official VCTU-G website, a dedicated platform designed to enhance communication, foster collaboration, and provide up-to-date research insights across Ghana’s Technical Universities. The website is expected to serve as a centralized hub for updates, research publications, and institutional information. Prof. Eshun noted, “a unified digital platform is crucial for promoting the visibility and impact of Technical Universities in Ghana. This website will ensure that stakeholders can easily access information from all Technical Universities and contribute to the sector’s growth.”

The session also included discussions on the revision of the Scheme of Service for Technical Universities, with the aim of enhancing career advancement, institutional governance, and faculty welfare.
