
Sunyani Technical University (STU) has been officially named the next host of the Ghana Technical Universities Sports Association (GHATUSA) Games. The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the 2025 GHATUSA Games in Cape Coast on Saturday, 12th April 2025, bringing an exciting end to a competitive week and setting the tone for the next major sporting showdown among Ghana’s technical universities.
Mrs. Evelyn Nsiah-Asare, Sports Director of STU, received the hosting flag on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of Sunyani Technical University from the Chairman of the Vice Chancellors of Technical Universities of Ghana (VCTU-G), Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun. The symbolic handover marked the official transfer of hosting responsibilities and signalled the beginning of what is expected to be one of the most anticipated editions of the GHATISA Games.
The ceremony drew several high-profile personalities from the technical university fraternity. Among those present were Prof. Kwaku Ayim Aboagye Boakye, Vice-Chancellor of Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU); Prof. Bashiru Imoro Ibn Saeed, Vice-Chancellor of Tamale Technical University (TaTU); Dr. Christopher Amehoe; Dr. Anthony Hercules Turkson of CCTU; Mr. Frank Owusu Boateng; Mr. Adu Agyei, Acting Registrar of Accra Technical University (ATU); Mr. Gideon Hammond, Deputy Director at the National Sports Authority; and Mr. Joseph Mensah Oti-Asirifi, Executive Secretary of VCTU-G.
Speaking after the flag presentation, Mrs. Nsiah-Asare expressed STU’s readiness to deliver. “We’re excited and proud to be hosting the next GHATUSA Games. STU is committed to providing excellent facilities and a well-organized event that will bring out the best in our student-athletes,” she said.
The next edition of the GHATUSA Games is scheduled 2027 and will feature a variety of sporting disciplines including football, athletics, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, and e-sports. All ten technical universities in Ghana are expected to compete for glory and bragging rights.
Following the success of the just-ended Games hosted by Cape Coast Technical University, attention now shifts to Sunyani, where expectations are high. With the countdown already underway, GHATUSA 2027 promises energy, rivalry, and top-tier performances in the heart of the Bono Region.
