Professor John Owusu

Vice Chancellor, Koforidua Technical University

John Owusu is an Associate Professor in Food Science and Engineering and is currently the Vice Chancellor of Koforidua Technical University, Koforidua, Ghana. He won the Jiangsu University Presidential Scholarship in 2010 to study in China and graduated with a PhD in Food Science and Engineering.

He has taught at the secondary level for over five (5) years and at the tertiary level for eighteen (18) years. He has held several academic positions such as Head of Department, Dean, and Pro Vice-Chancellor. He has served on several committees and has helped the University to make major decisions to achieve its vision and mission. He has published extensively, made conference presentations, and attended several training programmes to enhance his professional career. He has 886 citations, an H-Index of 14 and an i-10 Index of 17 to his credit. He was ranked among the top 1000 Scientists in Ghana according to the 2024 AD World Ranking of Scientists. He served as Assistant Examiner of the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) in Integrated Science from 2005 to 2010. He has reviewed scientific papers for several reputable journals including the Journal of Food Science, Journal of Food Processing and Preservation, European Food Research and Technology, Food Biophysics, Journal of Food Quality, Journal of Food Biochemistry, International Journal of Food Engineering, and Journal of Food Safety and International Food Research Journal.

Prof. Owusu is an active member of the Ghana Science Association in good standing. He is currently the Honorary Branch Secretary of the Ghana Science Association, Koforidua Branch. He is also a member of the Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG). As the Pro Vice Chancellor of KTU, he led the introduction of the BSc in Public Administration programme, which is a collaborative programme between KTU and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

During his time as a Pro Vice-Chancellor, almost all the Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes of the University were accredited to run 4-Year Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programmes. He has been an External Examiner for the Food Science and Technology programme at the University for Development Studies, and a Moderator/External Examiner of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET). He has been a staunch team member in developing many accreditation and re-accreditation documents, which have led to the introduction and re-accreditation of several programmes respectively.

He is married with four children.
